Alphabet’s CEO Sundar Pichai was awarded an estimated $226 million in compensation in 2022, the company said in filings filed with authorities on Friday. This is more than 800 times the median salary of an employee.
Pichai’s compensation also included a stock grant of approximately $218 million, according to the filings.
The pay gap comes at a time when Google parent company Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is cutting jobs globally. The Mountain View, Calif.-based company announced plans in January to lay off 12,000 jobs, or 6% of its global workforce.
Earlier this month, hundreds of Google employees went on strike at the company’s London office following a dispute over layoffs.
In March, Google employees went on strike at the company’s Zurich office after it laid off more than 200 employees.
