Payroll Shows Creation Of 187,000 Jobs In August, Above Consensus

The US urban employment report, known as the Payroll, showed the creation of 187,000 jobs in August, above the market consensus estimate of 170,000 jobs, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics said.

According to the report, the unemployment rate increased 3.8% in the month, with 6.4 million unemployed in the country. The number was also above the projection, which was 3.50%.

Average earnings per hour worked rose 0.2% month-on-month, just below the consensus 0.30%. On an annual basis, the readjustments were 4.3%, while the estimate pointed to an increase of 4.4% in the period.

The data is relevant for the market because it helps to measure the effect of the current restrictive monetary policy practiced by the Federal Reserve. If, on the one hand, job creation was stronger, the increase in the unemployment rate combined with lower-than-expected wage gains show that there is a relative loss of strength in the US economy, with room for a pause in interest rate hikes, especially given the controlled behavior of inflation in the country.
