U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were flat and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average were flat. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.
In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 gained 0.4% in morning trading. Raiffeisen Bank Intl climbed 10.3% and United Internet rose 6.7%. On the other hand, ProSiebenSat.1 Media slipped 2.7%, and Banco BPM dropped 2.3%. The FTSE 100 added 1.5%. Other stocks in Europe were up as France’s CAC 40 increased 0.3% and Germany’s DAX rose 0.2%.
The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index rose 0.1% to 96.63.
In commodities, Brent crude climbed 0.8% to $79.83 a barrel, and WTI crude gained 0.9% to $74.63 a barrel.
The German 10-year Bund yield fell by 3 basis points to 1.99% from 2.022%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury declined by 3 basis points to 3.898% from 3.932%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.
Stocks in Asia were mixed as Japan’s Nikkei 225 index gained 1.4%, whereas Hong Kong’s Hang Seng climbed 0.7%. China’s benchmark Shanghai Composite fell 1%.
