Fed’s Williams: Inflation expectations down ‘quite a bit’

Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John Williams said on Friday that inflation expectations have come down “quite a bit” in the recent period.

Speaking at the London School of Economics, Williams stressed that the United States economy was “remarkable” in 2023, with the gross domestic product exceeding 3%, alleviating concerns of a potential recession previously forecasted. The Fed official highlighted that the US job market has become “less tight” based on recent data, with job openings “coming down.”

“Fed focuses on mission, does not consider politics in deliberations,” Williams noted, adding that the central bank is responsible for achieving price stability.
