Stellantis to Relocate Maserati Production Back to Modena Roots

Stellantis (NYSE:STLA) announced Thursday that it will shift production of Maserati vehicles from the Mirafiori plant in Turin back to the brand’s birthplace in Modena by the end of the year.

The move brings Maserati closer to its historic roots in Modena, a city with deep ties to Italy’s luxury automotive heritage. Maserati has been undergoing a strategic reassessment, with its business plan and upcoming vehicle launches currently under review after being paused last year.

Meanwhile, the Mirafiori facility is preparing for the production rollout of the new hybrid Fiat 500 later this year. Stellantis hopes the introduction of this model – seen as a critical component of the company’s future – will reinvigorate the plant, which has faced multiple production halts due to weak demand for the electric-only version of the 500.

The shift will involve Maserati’s GranTurismo and GranCabrio models, currently assembled in Turin. Union representatives from Fim, Uilm, Fismic, Uglm, and Aqcfr welcomed the decision, noting that it will bolster output in Modena. Still, they called on Stellantis to bring more mainstream models to the Mirafiori site to ensure its long-term sustainability.

Maserati’s return to Modena places it once again at the heart of Italy’s famed “Motor Valley,” just a short distance from the headquarters of iconic peers Ferrari and Lamborghini.
