Microsoft to Cut Up to 9,000 Jobs in Latest Layoff Wave

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) confirmed on Wednesday that it plans to reduce its workforce by up to 9,000 employees, according to a report from The Seattle Times.

This reduction represents about 4% of Microsoft’s global staff, roughly 9,100 workers, marking the largest round of layoffs at the company since 2023. Microsoft employs over 228,000 people worldwide.

The move comes after two earlier rounds of job cuts in May and June, which saw more than 6,000 positions eliminated amid the company’s increasing focus on agentic AI technologies.

Microsoft has not yet commented on the latest layoffs, while its stock was down 0.6% at the time of this report.
