Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is set to utilize Samsung Display’s crease-free screen technology for its foldable iPhone, which is expected to enter large-scale production in the latter half of 2026, according to Ming-Chi Kuo from TF International Securities.
Rather than creating its own folding screen design, Apple will rely on Samsung’s proven solution to ensure consistent mass production. This choice is advantageous for suppliers partnered with Samsung Display, with Fine M-Tec positioned as the leading beneficiary.
Fine M-Tec, a supplier of display metal plates (internal hinges), is anticipated to begin delivering components for the foldable iPhone in early 2026. These metal plates, which cost roughly $30-35 each, play a crucial role in achieving crease-free displays by managing the bending stresses during the folding process.
The company expects to ship between 13 and 15 million units in 2026, capturing a supply share of around 80% or more. The shipment volume exceeds the actual device assembly needs due to losses during production and spare parts requirements.
To meet Apple’s demanding crease-free standards, Fine M-Tec will employ advanced laser drilling to create microscopic structures that improve stress distribution—a technique that allows for higher prices compared to Samsung’s current etching method (priced around $20).
Fine M-Tec is also benefiting from Samsung’s own foldable device lineup, with the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 projected to ship approximately 7 million units in 2025, reflecting about 40% growth year-over-year.
To keep up with growing demand for foldable iPhone parts, Fine M-Tec plans to increase its manufacturing capacity in Vietnam, according to Kuo.
