Baidu (NASDAQ:BIDU) plans to launch a new reasoning AI model before the end of August, designed to tackle more complex tasks, according to an insider familiar with the company’s plans.
In addition, Baidu is gearing up to release Ernie 5.0, the latest upgrade to its foundational AI model, within the next few months, the source added.
This announcement follows Baidu’s debut of its initial reasoning model in March and its pioneering release of a ChatGPT-style chatbot, known as Ernie Bot, which made the company a front-runner among Chinese tech giants in the AI chatbot arena.
These upcoming developments are part of Baidu’s broader push to stay competitive against rivals like DeepSeek and OpenAI in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence market.
Data from Chinese AI product tracker aicpb.com showed that in July, Ernie Bot ranked 10th in monthly active users among AI applications in China.
