Chrysler Minivans Face Federal Probe Over Steering Concerns

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on Monday that it has launched an investigation into roughly 287,000 Chrysler minivans produced by Stellantis (NYSE:STLA), citing potential issues with their electric power steering systems.

The review focuses on Chrysler Pacifica models from the 2017 and 2018 model years.

According to NHTSA, the agency has received complaints describing a “sticky” sensation in the steering when making gradual turns, depending on the position of the steering wheel. Drivers reported that the power steering assistance then re-engages suddenly.

The regulator warned that this abrupt reactivation of the electric power steering could lead to oversteering, potentially raising the risk of accidents.
