Lyft Inc. (NASDAQ:LYFT) and Waymo have joined forces to introduce autonomous ride-hailing in Nashville in 2026, the companies announced in a press release.
The partnership will leverage Lyft’s Flexdrive subsidiary to manage Waymo’s autonomous fleet, covering vehicle maintenance, infrastructure, and depot operations. Initially, passengers will book rides through the Waymo app, with plans to integrate the autonomous fleet into Lyft’s platform later in the year.
“This partnership brings together best-in-class autonomous vehicles with best-in-class customer experience,” said Lyft CEO David Risher. “Waymo has proven that its autonomous technology works at scale.”
Waymo co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana added, “We’re delighted to partner with Lyft and launch in Nashville next year, as we continue to scale our Waymo ride-hailing service to more people in more places.”
The collaboration will use a dynamic marketplace system to allow Waymo vehicles to pick up riders from both platforms, optimizing fleet usage.
Lyft will build a dedicated facility in Nashville for managing the autonomous vehicles, including charging stations and service capabilities. Flexdrive will oversee daily operations to ensure vehicle availability and performance.
Waymo’s autonomous vehicles will operate alongside Lyft’s human-driven network, reflecting a hybrid approach that combines self-driving technology with traditional ride-sharing services.
