Laser Photonics Corporation (NASDAQ:LASE) jumped 32.9% Thursday following news that its Laser Shield Anti-Drone (LSAD) System successfully neutralized a live drone during field testing.
The industrial laser systems company, in collaboration with Fonon Technologies, reported that the LSAD system effectively disabled an active drone in short-range trials. This milestone represents a major step toward commercial deployment of the technology.
“We’ve crossed a critical threshold…our LSAD system has successfully neutralized a live hostile drone in field conditions. This isn’t theoretical anymore,” said Bryan Lee, Vice President of FTI. “Every successful test brings us closer to a potential selection by our military, government agencies and allied partners who desperately need this capability.”
Following the successful test, the companies plan to conduct extended-range trials at a certified counter-drone testing facility. Additionally, the LSAD system has been named a finalist in the Drone Dominance Innovation Challenge, with a presentation scheduled at the Defense TechConnect Innovation Summit in November 2025.
The counter-drone sector represents a significant market opportunity, projected to reach $8.5 billion by 2030. Laser Photonics is actively engaging with defense contractors and military partners to explore integration of the LSAD system with existing defense platforms.
This development aligns with recent U.S. national security priorities, including executive orders on “Restoring American Airspace Sovereignty” and “Unleashing American Drone Dominance,” aimed at strengthening airspace protection and advancing domestic counter-drone technology.
