Veritone Inc (NASDAQ:VERI) shares climbed 4% on Tuesday after the AI-focused enterprise announced it had reached a licensing agreement with ESPN to provide access to audio from NCAA Division I Championship events.
Under the arrangement, ESPN will be able to generate revenue from its audio archives by granting content creators access to broadcasts of historic games, post-game interviews, and crowd reactions. Advertisers, documentary producers, and media companies can license this audio via Veritone’s platform.
“By leveraging Veritone’s client base and extensive licensing experience, ESPN is making historic and culturally significant collegiate sports moments from its audio archive more accessible than ever before,” said Ryan Steelberg, CEO of Veritone.
Veritone’s technology will make ESPN’s audio library searchable and easily licensable, offering a centralized solution for content creators while ensuring ESPN retains approval authority and control over its materials.
The deal aligns with Veritone’s broader goal of solidifying its role at the intersection of sports and media licensing. Through its AI-driven tools, the company helps transform static archives into ongoing digital revenue streams for leading brands.
