Tesla under NHTSA investigation over alleged Full Self-Driving violations

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said Thursday it has opened a probe into 2.88 million Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) vehicles equipped with its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, citing potential violations of traffic safety laws.

The regulator explained that the FSD feature — intended as an advanced driver assistance system that still requires constant human attention — has “induced vehicle behavior that violated traffic safety laws.”

According to the NHTSA, reports have surfaced of Tesla vehicles running red lights and traveling in the wrong direction during lane changes while the system was active.

The investigation covers nearly 3 million Tesla cars equipped with FSD technology, which — despite its name — still demands continuous driver supervision.
