Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) shares climbed 3% on Monday after pop icon Taylor Swift announced new exclusive programming for the Disney+ streaming platform.
In a post on X, Swift revealed that “The Eras Tour | The Final Show”—a full concert film including her complete “Tortured Poets Department” set—will premiere on Disney+ on December 12. The release will also include the first two episodes of “The End of an Era,” a six-part behind-the-scenes docuseries chronicling the closing chapter of her record-breaking tour.
“It was the End of an Era and we knew it. We wanted to remember every moment leading up to the culmination of the most important and intense chapter of our lives, so we allowed filmmakers to capture this tour and all the stories woven throughout it as it wound down. And to film the final show in its entirety,” Swift wrote on X.
According to Variety, the concert film was shot during the tour’s grand finale at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver on December 8, 2023. The docuseries promises to give “an intimate look at Taylor’s life as her tour made headlines and thrilled fans around the world,” including appearances by opening acts and special guests.
The announcement marks Swift’s return to Disney+, where her previous concert film “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” shattered records with 4.6 million views within its first three days after its theatrical release. Unlike that earlier project, the new concert film and docuseries will skip theaters entirely and debut exclusively on the streaming service.
Investors responded positively to the news, viewing Swift’s new content as a potential boost to subscriber engagement and streaming momentum for Disney+.
