Origin Agritech Ltd (NASDAQ:SEED) soared 61.1% in premarket trading Wednesday after announcing a successful comeback to China’s Northeast agricultural market, a key region for the country’s grain production.
The company completed its Northeast Variety Showcase and Technology Seminar in Changchun on September 18–19, drawing more than 200 dealers and partners. At the event, Origin introduced several new nationally approved corn varieties, including Jinqiao 8, Jingke 4580, and Jingke 317, highlighting its push to expand market share.
As part of its growth strategy, Origin unveiled a strategic collaboration with Fengtian Seed Industry to jointly develop and commercialize premium corn varieties. This partnership aims to accelerate market penetration through established regional distribution networks.
During the seminar, R&D Director Bill Deng outlined progress on Origin’s transgenic technology platform, spotlighting advancements in the BBL2-2 event. China Agricultural University Professor Feng Tian also presented gene editing applications developed in collaboration with the company.
Origin has recently launched its Golden Harvest Club and Brand Symbiosis Program, initiatives focused on strengthening relationships with dealers and creating shared growth opportunities with distribution partners.
“Our re-entry into the Northeast market is a pivotal part of our growth strategy,” said Weibin Yan, CEO of Origin. “This event successfully re-established our presence and demonstrated the commercial potential of our proprietary seed technologies.”
The Northeast region is one of China’s most important agricultural zones, and the strong reception at Origin’s showcase underscores the potential for robust sales growth in future planting seasons.
