Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) is recalling 12,963 vehicles in the U.S. after discovering a fault in a battery pack component that could lead to a sudden loss of propulsion, according to a notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Wednesday.
The recall applies to select 2025 Model 3 and 2026 Model Y vehicles. Regulators said the defect may cause a sudden inability to accelerate, heightening the risk of an accident.
Tesla plans to replace the faulty battery pack contactor at no cost to affected customers.
As of October 7, the automaker had documented 36 warranty claims and 26 field reports associated with the issue.
The company also noted it has not received any reports of crashes, injuries, or fatalities linked to the defect.
