Skyworks Solutions (NASDAQ:SWKS), a major supplier of radio frequency (RF) chips to Apple Inc. and other smartphone makers, has held preliminary talks in recent months regarding a possible acquisition of rival chipmaker Qorvo (NASDAQ:QRVO), according to a report published Tuesday by The Information.
The discussions were disclosed by individuals familiar with the matter, the report said, though no details were shared about the current status of negotiations or potential financial terms of a deal between the two RF component manufacturers.
Skyworks and Qorvo are direct competitors in the market for radio frequency components used in mobile devices, including smartphones from Apple and other leading brands. An acquisition would represent a significant consolidation in the RF semiconductor space.
