Tesla’s Cybertruck Chief Departs After Eight Years with the Company

Siddhant Awasthi, the executive leading Tesla’s (NASDAQ:TSLA) Cybertruck program, announced on Sunday that he is leaving the electric vehicle maker after eight years with the company.

In a post shared on LinkedIn, Awasthi reflected on his time at Tesla Inc., noting that he had contributed to several key initiatives, including the Model 3 program, the development of the Shanghai Gigafactory, and most recently, the launch of the Cybertruck.

The departure comes as Tesla continues to face challenges with its long-delayed Cybertruck, which launched in late 2023 but has since struggled to gain traction. The vehicle has been plagued by safety recalls and mixed consumer reactions, with reports suggesting Tesla is selling fewer than 25,000 units per year.

Despite sluggish sales, Tesla has built up production capacity for over 200,000 Cybertrucks annually, underscoring the company’s continued commitment to the model even amid its rocky rollout.
