Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) is facing a federal investigation after one of its Prime Air drones struck and cut an internet cable in Waco, Texas, according to a report from CNBC on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on November 18 when the company’s MK30 delivery drone became caught on a nearby line while ascending after dropping off a package, CNBC said.
Footage reviewed by the outlet showed the drone slicing through the cable before its motor shut down and it carried out what Amazon called a “safe contingent landing.”
Amazon told CNBC that there were no injuries and no major service outages tied to the incident. The company said it covered the cost of repairing the damaged line and apologized to the affected customer.
The Federal Aviation Administration has opened an investigation into the mishap, while the National Transportation Safety Board confirmed it is aware of the event but has not initiated its own probe, CNBC reported.
This is the second accident involving Amazon’s drone fleet in recent weeks. Federal authorities last month launched a separate investigation into a crash involving two Prime Air drones in Arizona.
