The European Union has initiated a formal antitrust probe into Alphabet’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Google, examining whether the company’s conduct in the artificial intelligence space may be harming competition.
In a statement released Tuesday, the European Commission said it is assessing whether Google has been imposing unfair terms on publishers and content creators, potentially restricting their ability to compete.
Regulators are also scrutinising claims that Google may be granting its own services preferential access to online content—an action that could give its AI technologies an undue competitive edge over rival platforms.
