Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) is requiring customers in China to settle orders for its H200 artificial intelligence chips in full at the time of purchase, according to a Reuters report published on Thursday that cited people familiar with the situation.
Under the revised terms, orders must be prepaid and are subject to strict conditions, leaving no scope for cancellations, refunds or post-order changes to chip configurations. In limited circumstances, customers may be allowed to substitute cash payments with commercial insurance or property-backed guarantees.
The report said Nvidia has applied these measures particularly firmly to H200 shipments, reflecting uncertainty over whether Chinese regulators will ultimately grant approval for the chips to be delivered into the country.
