Plug Power Inc. (NASDAQ:PLUG) has carried out the initial hydrogen fill for a 32-kilometer pipeline in Rotterdam, supplying 32 tons of RFNBO-certified renewable green hydrogen along with specialized unloading infrastructure.
The Rotterdam pipeline segment links port facilities with nearby industrial demand hubs and is set to connect into the wider European hydrogen network. The pipeline is operated by Hynetwork, a subsidiary of Gasunie, and forms part of the Netherlands’ national hydrogen infrastructure program.
Plug secured the work through a public tender and designed a bespoke unloading skid capable of handling three MEGC trailers simultaneously in a high-throughput configuration. The system was developed in close coordination with engineering teams from both the Netherlands and Hynetwork.
This latest delivery follows Plug’s hydrogen shipment in October 2025, when the company supplied more than 44 tons of renewable hydrogen to the H2CAST salt cavern storage facility in Germany, a joint project led by Gasunie and STORAG ETZEL. After that initial delivery, Plug was awarded an additional contract to supply a further 35 tons for the same project.
“The Hynetwork hydrogen network represents one of Europe’s most important early hydrogen infrastructure deployments, and Plug is proud to support the commissioning of the Rotterdam pipeline,” said Jose Luis Crespo, President and Chief Revenue Officer of Plug.
The hydrogen supplied to Rotterdam is sourced from Hy2Gen’s RFNBO-certified Atlantis production facility, where Plug controls 100% of the offtake under a tolling agreement. Transport is handled using Plug’s fleet of 40-foot MEGC trailers, each capable of carrying more than 1,000 kilograms of compressed hydrogen.
Hynetwork’s broader objective is to establish a pan-European hydrogen transport system by repurposing and expanding existing gas infrastructure. The Rotterdam pipeline marks another step forward in the rollout of the Dutch hydrogen network.
