BJ’s Wholesale Club Holdings Inc. (NYSE:BJ) reported fourth-quarter results that topped profit expectations but fell short on revenue, while its fiscal 2026 outlook came in below Wall Street forecasts, sending the stock down about 2.5% in premarket trading on Thursday.
For the quarter ended January 31, the warehouse retailer posted adjusted earnings per share of $0.96, beating analyst estimates of $0.92 by $0.04. Revenue totaled $5.44 billion, however, missing the consensus forecast of $5.54 billion despite rising 5.5% from $5.16 billion a year earlier.
Comparable club sales increased 1.6% year over year, or 2.6% excluding gasoline sales. The company said performance was supported by membership growth, stronger digital activity and higher store traffic, marking the 16th straight quarter of traffic gains.
Looking ahead, BJ’s forecast fiscal 2026 adjusted earnings per share of $4.40 to $4.60. The midpoint of $4.50 sits below the analyst consensus of $4.66. Comparable club sales excluding gasoline are expected to grow between 2.0% and 3.0% year over year. The company also plans about $800 million in capital spending for new club openings and upgrades to its distribution network.
“As we reflect on the year, our results demonstrate the strength of our transformation and disciplined execution of our long-term priorities,” said Bob Eddy, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “Record membership, strong digital engagement, and our 16th consecutive quarter of traffic growth show how effectively our teams are delivering value and convenience to our members.”
Membership fee income rose 10.9% to $129.8 million in the quarter, driven by new sign-ups, higher retention and greater adoption of premium membership tiers, along with the annual membership fee increase introduced in January 2025.
BJ’s maintained a 90% renewal rate among tenured members in fiscal 2025. Digitally enabled comparable sales jumped 31%, representing 57% growth on a two-year stacked basis. During the quarter, the retailer opened seven new warehouse clubs and seven additional gas stations.
