Stryker says cyberattack contained, prioritizes restoring customer-facing systems

Medical technology company Stryker (NYSE:SYK) said Tuesday it has contained a cyberattack that disrupted parts of its operations and is now focused on restoring systems tied to customer support, order processing and shipping.

The company said the incident began on March 11 and temporarily affected several operational functions, including order management, manufacturing and product shipments. A hacking group known as Handala, believed to have links to Iran, claimed responsibility for the attack that same day, saying it was carried out in retaliation for a strike on a girls’ school in Minab in southern Iran.

Stryker said the breach impacted devices such as cellphones, laptops and other remote systems running Microsoft Windows that were able to connect to its internal networks.

The company added that patient-related services and connected medical devices were not affected by the attack. However, it did not disclose any details regarding the potential financial consequences of the disruption.

Stryker, which employs around 56,000 people and operates across 61 countries, said it is working with relevant authorities and external cybersecurity specialists as part of its ongoing investigation into the incident.
