Jabil Inc. (NYSE:JBL) announced it will donate $1.1 million over three years to St. Petersburg College to support training programs focused on advanced manufacturing, according to a company press release.
The funding is intended to broaden student access to manufacturing technology, laboratory equipment and the raw materials commonly used in production environments. It will also fund scholarships for students pursuing certifications in soldering and mechatronics while strengthening workforce readiness initiatives.
Engineers and manufacturing specialists from Jabil will work with faculty at the college to help design coursework for technical roles such as soldering specialists as well as robotics and semiconductor technicians. The programs aim to prepare students for careers with manufacturers across the Tampa Bay region.
“By investing in St. Petersburg College’s soldering and mechatronics programs, we’re building a pipeline of in-demand talent equipped with training and technical knowhow that can jump into key roles at manufacturers like Jabil from day one,” said John Kraus, Vice President of Operations, North America at Jabil.
Jabil operates three manufacturing facilities in the Tampa Bay area along with its corporate headquarters and employs more than 3,000 people locally. Founded in 1966, the company provides engineering, supply chain and manufacturing services to customers around the world.
St. Petersburg College, established in 1927, was Florida’s first two-year college and now offers more than 300 academic and workforce programs, including associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, certificates and professional certifications.
“This support strengthens our ability to deliver hands-on, career-focused education and ensures our programs stay aligned with current workforce needs,” said Belinthia Berry, Dean of Workforce Development at St. Petersburg College.
