ON Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:ON) has broadened its strategic partnership with NIO Inc. (NYSE:NIO) to support the rollout of next-generation 900V electric vehicle platforms, according to a company announcement.
The collaboration will incorporate onsemi’s EliteSiC enhanced M3e technology as NIO transitions from 400V to 900V system architectures. The solution is designed to enhance switching efficiency through improved body diode performance, helping to reduce energy losses while preserving durability under short-circuit conditions.
Several NIO vehicles equipped with onsemi technology are expected to be featured at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, including the company’s flagship ES9 SUV. The expanded agreement builds on an existing multi-year relationship that previously supported NIO’s 400V platforms.
“Our expanded collaboration with NIO demonstrates how deep engineering alignment and aligned technology roadmaps can accelerate the transition to high-voltage architectures,” said Hassane El-Khoury, President and CEO of onsemi.
Alan Zeng, CEO of XPT—NIO’s powertrain division—added that “the performance and reliability of onsemi’s EliteSiC technology, combined with strong technical collaboration, are helping us deliver more efficient, high-performance vehicles to our customers worldwide.”
The strengthened partnership highlights a broader industry trend toward tighter integration between automakers and semiconductor firms, as electric vehicles demand increasingly advanced power systems. The focus is on system-level optimisation to enable scalable and higher-performance EV platforms.
onsemi’s EliteSiC technology is engineered to support greater power output, improved thermal management, and enhanced drivetrain efficiency as the sector moves toward higher-voltage electric vehicle architectures.
