According to the report, non-farm payrolls increased by 115,000 jobs during the month, following a revised gain of 185,000 positions in March.
Market economists had projected payroll growth of 63,000 jobs, while the previous month’s figure had originally been reported as a gain of 178,000.
The unemployment rate stood at 4.3 per cent in April, unchanged from March and matching consensus expectations.
