Northrop Grumman Selected for U.S. Defense Drone Payload Program (NOC)

Company Named Preferred Payload Provider

Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC) has been selected as one of five preferred payload providers under the Department of War’s Drone Dominance Program Lethality Prize Challenge.

The award positions Northrop Grumman to help develop and scale advanced payload systems designed to support the rapidly expanding production of small military drones.

Drone Dominance Program Targets Large-Scale Deployment

The Drone Dominance Program is a $1 billion initiative focused on accelerating the deployment of low-cost, expendable unmanned aerial systems and related mission technologies for military use.

Under the program, the Department of War aims to field more than 200,000 drones by 2027 to expand distributed battlefield capabilities while strengthening the U.S. defense industrial base.

Northrop to Supply Common UAS Payload

As part of the initiative, Northrop Grumman will provide its Common UAS Payload, a standardized off-the-shelf fuze and effects module designed for integration across multiple unmanned systems.

The payload is engineered to operate with aerial, maritime and ground-based platforms and is intended to deliver 360-degree lethality in harsh operational environments using rugged electronics and established energetics technology.

Billions Invested in Munition and Rocket Technologies

Northrop Grumman said it has invested more than $2 billion in recent years into solid rocket motor production, munitions technology and facility modernization efforts.

According to the company, those investments position it to support the accelerated manufacturing and delivery requirements tied to the Drone Dominance Program.

Modular Design Supports Broad Integration

The Common UAS Payload features an open-systems modular architecture with standardized interfaces intended to simplify integration across different drone platforms and mission profiles.

The system also aligns with the U.S. Army’s Purpose-Built Attritable Systems requirements, which are aimed at improving flexibility, speeding deployment timelines and lowering lifecycle costs.
