Boeing partnership supports rollout of integrated airline connectivity systems
Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. (NASDAQ:GILT) shares gained 4% in premarket trading Tuesday after the company announced a new agreement with Boeing to provide its Sidewinder antenna as a line-fit option for in-flight connectivity providers.
Under the partnership, Boeing will make Gilat’s multi-orbit Sidewinder electronically steered antenna available for factory installation through its in-flight connectivity integration partners. The companies said the initiative is intended to speed up adoption of advanced broadband connectivity solutions across the airline industry.
Sidewinder system designed to reduce installation and maintenance costs
The Sidewinder terminal uses a compact electronically steered antenna design aimed at simplifying aircraft installation processes while lowering long-term maintenance expenses.
By offering the technology through a line-fit model, airlines can avoid the additional costs and operational downtime typically associated with retrofit installations, allowing aircraft to enter service with connectivity systems already integrated.
The company added that the terminal operates under an open architecture, no lock-in model, giving airlines greater flexibility to expand onboard digital services and improve operational performance as connectivity demand increases.
“Partnering with Boeing for this line-fit program is a true honor and reflects our focus on bringing advanced connectivity solutions to the aviation market,” said Ron Levin, President of Gilat Commercial Division.
