Klarna (NYSE:KLAR) shares climbed 4% on Wednesday after the company introduced its AI-powered Shopping Search application within ChatGPT, expanding real-time product discovery capabilities into conversational AI experiences.
The newly launched feature enables users to search for products directly inside ChatGPT conversations while viewing visual shopping results that include current pricing, product availability, and promotional offers from multiple retailers.
Consumers are then redirected to merchants’ websites to complete purchases.
Klarna Connects Commerce Data to ChatGPT
Klarna said its Product Search MCP server links ChatGPT with the company’s extensive commerce database, which includes more than 100 million products and 400 million merchant listings across 13 global markets.
The integration is designed to simplify online shopping by reducing the need for users to compare products and prices across multiple browser tabs and websites.
AI Shopping Adoption Continues to Accelerate
The launch comes amid rising adoption of AI-driven shopping tools in the retail industry.
According to Klarna, traffic from AI platforms to retail websites surged nearly 700% during the 2025 holiday season, while shoppers arriving through AI-powered services converted at rates 31% higher than traditional traffic sources.
New Discovery Channel for Merchants
For retailers, the Shopping Search app introduces an additional product discovery channel directly within ChatGPT.
Merchants are displayed in organic search results based on relevance, while sponsored placement opportunities are also available for brands seeking increased visibility.
“ChatGPT is where millions of people already turn when they’re figuring out what they want,” said David Sykes, Chief Commercial Officer at Klarna. “We’re plugging our merchant network directly into that moment.”
Klarna said the Shopping Search app is now live and available within ChatGPT.
