Mobix Labs, Inc. (NASDAQ:MOBX) surged in premarket trading on Thursday after announcing a binding letter of intent to acquire Vision Aerial, a Montana-based developer and manufacturer of American-made drone systems.
Shares of the company jumped 32.7% following the announcement as investors reacted positively to the proposed expansion into the fast-growing drone market.
Acquisition Expands Strategic Focus
The proposed transaction marks a significant step in Mobix Labs’ strategy of pursuing acquisitions in mission-critical technology sectors.
By acquiring Vision Aerial, the company would gain an established presence in drone manufacturing and broaden its exposure to defense, public safety and critical infrastructure markets.
Management views the deal as an opportunity to diversify its technology portfolio while entering a sector benefiting from increasing demand for domestically produced unmanned aerial systems.
Vision Aerial Serves Government and Industrial Customers
Founded in 2013, Vision Aerial designs and manufactures drone platforms used across a range of government, defense and commercial applications.
Its customer list includes organizations such as the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Navy, the USDA Forest Service and L3Harris, alongside major energy companies including Marathon Oil, DTE Energy and Northwestern Energy.
The company’s systems support missions involving national security, emergency response, infrastructure management and environmental monitoring.
Drones Used Across Multiple Critical Applications
Vision Aerial’s aircraft are deployed for a variety of operational tasks, including search-and-rescue missions, wildfire management, utility and infrastructure inspections, agricultural operations and environmental surveys.
The platforms are designed to support interchangeable payloads, allowing users to equip drones with specialized technologies such as thermal imaging systems and laser-based 3D mapping sensors.
This flexibility has helped the company establish a presence across multiple end markets.
Leadership Expected to Remain in Place
Although financial details of the transaction were not disclosed, Mobix Labs indicated that Vision Aerial’s founders and management team are expected to remain with the business under multi-year agreements.
The company also stated that manufacturing operations are expected to continue within the United States following completion of the acquisition.
Transaction Still Subject to Final Agreements
The acquisition remains subject to several conditions, including completion of due diligence, negotiation of a definitive agreement and satisfaction of customary closing requirements.
Mobix Labs cautioned that there can be no guarantee the transaction will ultimately be completed as currently proposed.
Demand for Domestic Drone Production Growing
The announcement comes as demand for U.S.-manufactured drone systems continues to increase.
Federal restrictions affecting certain foreign-made drones have encouraged government agencies and commercial operators to seek domestically produced alternatives, while international customers have also placed greater emphasis on supply-chain security and technology sovereignty.
Mobix Labs believes these industry trends could create attractive long-term opportunities if the Vision Aerial acquisition is successfully completed.
