Plug Power Completes Electrolyzer Deployment at Danish Green Hydrogen Facility (PLUG)

Plug Power Inc. (NASDAQ:PLUG) has completed the installation and commissioning of a 5-megawatt GenEco PEM electrolyzer system at European Energy’s Måde Power-to-X facility in Esbjerg, Denmark, marking another milestone in the company’s growing global hydrogen infrastructure portfolio.

The project represents one of Denmark’s early operational Power-to-X developments and is expected to contribute to the country’s expanding renewable hydrogen production capacity.

Facility Expected to Produce 550 Tons of Green Hydrogen Annually

The Måde facility is projected to generate approximately 550 metric tons of green hydrogen each year, equivalent to around 1,500 truckloads of fuel.

According to Plug Power, the hydrogen produced at the site has been certified as Renewable Fuel of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) framework.

The certification supports the facility’s role in supplying renewable energy solutions for industrial and transportation applications.

Project Included Full System Delivery

Plug Power’s work on the project covered the complete deployment process, including installation, commissioning, site acceptance testing and final handover of the electrolyzer system.

The company said the successful completion demonstrates its ability to execute commercial-scale hydrogen projects and bring Power-to-X facilities into operation efficiently.

Containerized Design Accelerates Deployment

The GenEco electrolyzer utilizes a fully containerized architecture designed to simplify installation and reduce project complexity.

Plug said the approach helped shorten deployment timelines and minimize on-site construction requirements compared with traditional hydrogen production systems.

The company views standardized and repeatable deployment models as an important part of scaling its electrolyzer business globally.

Management Highlights Focus on Operational Execution

Chief Executive Officer José Luis Crespo said the project reflects Plug’s increasing emphasis on operational efficiency and repeatable project delivery.

“As Plug enters its next phase of disciplined growth and operational maturity, we’re seeing a shift from one-off deployments to repeatable execution,” said José Luis Crespo, CEO of Plug.

“Each project builds on prior experience, allowing us to standardize delivery, reduce timelines, and improve performance with every Plug system we bring online.”

European Energy Sees Progress for Power-to-X Sector

European Energy highlighted the project as an example of how hydrogen developments are increasingly moving beyond the planning stage into commercial operation.

Rene Alcaraz Frederiksen, EVP and Head of Power-to-X at European Energy, said the facility demonstrates how PtX projects can advance successfully from development to production.

“Working with Plug, we’ve been able to move efficiently through installation and commissioning to begin producing certified renewable hydrogen,” he said.

Global Electrolyzer Footprint Continues to Expand

Plug Power stated that more than 70 GenEco electrolyzer systems are now operating across six continents.

The company continues to expand its presence in the hydrogen sector as governments and businesses invest in renewable fuels and low-carbon energy infrastructure to support long-term decarbonization goals.

The successful completion of the Danish project further strengthens Plug’s position in the growing global market for green hydrogen production technologies.
