American Battery Technology Shares Rise 10% After Receiving Export Approval

American Battery Technology Co (NASDAQ:ABAT) shares rose 10% in premarket trading on Thursday after the company received US government approval to export up to $100 million of recycled black mass material.

The approval from the US Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security allows American Battery Technology to sell its recycled black mass under specified terms following the introduction of federal export controls covering critical battery materials.

Black mass contains materials including lithium, nickel, cobalt, manganese and graphite, which can be processed and returned to supply chains for use in new products.

American Battery Technology processes end-of-life batteries and manufacturing scrap at its commercial-scale recycling facility near Reno, Nevada, which began operations in 2023.

Company Expands Battery Recycling Operations

The export licence follows American Battery Technology reporting year-on-year revenue growth of more than 400% for fiscal 2026.

“We are grateful for this license and continued support from the U.S. government for the sales of our domestic critical mineral products as we scale both our current critical mineral recycling facility and also our second recycling facility supported by $150 million in competitive grants from the U.S. Department of Energy,” CEO Ryan Melsert said.

The company is expanding its recycling operations through a second facility supported by $150 million in competitive grants from the US Department of Energy.

American Battery Technology said its recycling operations produce copper, aluminium, steel, lithium-rich intermediates and black mass from battery materials using technologies developed internally by the company.
