NUBURU Strengthens NATO and Allied Defence Ambitions Through Tekne Acquisition

NUBURU, Inc. (AMEX:BURU) has completed its acquisition of a 70% controlling interest in Italian defence manufacturer Tekne S.p.A., adding established industrial capabilities in electronic warfare and defence mobility to its broader ambitions in the global defence and security sector.

The acquisition represents an important step in NUBURU’s strategy to bring together complementary technologies, manufacturing expertise and software capabilities within a single Defense & Security platform. With Tekne’s established Italian operations alongside its laser engineering and software businesses, NUBURU is developing an offering designed to address the increasingly interconnected requirements of modern defence and critical-infrastructure protection.

The wider opportunity extends beyond individual equipment sales. As defence organisations seek more adaptable, integrated and rapidly deployable capabilities, NUBURU is positioning itself to pursue opportunities across electronic warfare, counter-drone systems, specialist vehicles and operational-resilience technology.

Bringing complementary technologies together

Modern defence requirements increasingly depend on how sensors, communications, software, electronic-warfare systems and mobile platforms work together. This creates opportunities for suppliers capable of combining different technologies into integrated solutions.

NUBURU’s strategy is built around this principle.

Through Tekne, founded in 1990, the group gains an established industrial operation with approximately 185 personnel across three Italian facilities in Ortona, Poggiofiorito and Guastalla. Tekne’s capabilities include electronic warfare, its Tactical Bubble technology and specialist defence-vehicle engineering, supported by customer relationships across defence, civil protection, public safety and industry.

These activities complement Lyocon’s photonics and laser engineering expertise, while Orbit contributes operational-resilience software to the group’s wider technology strategy.

The ambition is to bring these capabilities together to develop solutions for applications such as mobile counter-drone systems, electronic warfare, command-support infrastructure and critical-infrastructure protection.

By combining hardware, software and manufacturing expertise, NUBURU aims to establish greater control over the development and production process, providing a platform from which to address a broader range of customer requirements.

An established industrial foundation

Tekne provides NUBURU with an existing manufacturing base and engineering workforce, offering a different starting point from a strategy built solely around developing new technologies.

Its management production schedule dated September 14, 2026, identified approximately $93.1 million (€80.6 million) in remaining program value across its portfolio. This is a preliminary, unaudited management measure that includes programs subject to certain options, framework or activation requirements; it should not be interpreted as confirmed backlog or a forecast of future revenue.

The business provides an industrial foundation from which NUBURU can pursue existing programs while exploring further opportunities in defence mobility, electronic warfare and counter-drone applications.

The company is also assessing the potential reactivation of selected previously withdrawn procurement procedures and terminated supply contracts. These remain contingent opportunities rather than current awards and depend on decisions by the relevant authorities and definitive contractual arrangements.

For NUBURU, the combination of Tekne’s established operations and the group’s complementary technology businesses provides a broader base for commercial development across European and allied defence markets.

Electronic warfare and counter-drone markets in focus

Electronic warfare and counter-drone technology have become increasingly important areas of defence investment as governments respond to evolving operational requirements and the proliferation of unmanned systems.

MarketsandMarkets estimates that the global electronic-warfare market could grow from approximately $32.35 billion in 2026 to $64.66 billion by 2031. Separately, Grand View Research estimates that the global anti-drone market could expand from approximately $4.1 billion in 2026 to $19.8 billion by 2033.

These are separate, potentially overlapping market estimates rather than forecasts of NUBURU’s revenue or market share. However, they illustrate the scale of the sectors in which the company intends to establish its presence.

The opportunity for suppliers extends beyond the development of individual products. Defence customers also require systems that can be deployed effectively, integrated with existing infrastructure, maintained throughout their operating lives and adapted as operational requirements evolve.

NUBURU’s combination of electronic warfare, laser technology, mobile platforms and software is intended to address elements of this wider requirement.

Developing longer-term commercial opportunities

Equipment delivery can provide the starting point for an ongoing customer relationship, with maintenance, software, upgrades and lifecycle support potentially creating additional opportunities over time.

NUBURU intends to incorporate these activities into its commercial model, building on initial system sales to pursue longer-term support and service relationships.

Its wider strategy also includes operational-resilience software and AI-assisted orchestration, reflecting an ambition to connect physical equipment with the digital systems used to coordinate and support operations.

Some elements of the integrated offering remain under development or validation. Turning the strategy into commercial results will therefore depend on technical qualification, successful integration, customer adoption and the ability to secure and deliver contracts.

The extent to which lifecycle support and software develop into recurring revenue streams will similarly depend on future customer agreements and execution.

Positioning for NATO and allied markets

NUBURU’s Italian industrial base is central to its international ambitions. Tekne’s facilities provide manufacturing and engineering capabilities within a NATO member state, while the group is targeting opportunities with Italian, U.S., NATO and allied customers.

Across these markets, defence procurement increasingly places emphasis on interoperability, resilient communications and rapidly deployable capabilities. Suppliers that can combine specialist technologies with established production and support infrastructure may be well positioned to address these requirements.

For NUBURU, the priority is to translate its collection of businesses and technologies into commercially viable solutions. This involves coordinating the group’s capabilities, qualifying integrated systems, strengthening customer relationships and delivering programs to the required standards.

The acquisition of Tekne gives the company a more substantial industrial platform from which to pursue that objective, complementing its existing laser and software activities.

Building towards an integrated defence business

NUBURU’s strategy reflects a broader ambition to establish a defence technology business that combines specialist engineering, manufacturing and software-driven integration.

Tekne contributes established industrial expertise in electronic warfare and defence mobility. Lyocon adds laser and photonics capabilities, while Orbit supports the group’s operational-resilience software strategy.

Together, these businesses form the foundation of an approach designed to address multiple requirements across defence, security and critical-infrastructure markets.

The opportunity lies in bringing these capabilities together to meet practical operational needs. The challenge will be to integrate the businesses effectively, execute existing programs and convert further commercial opportunities into sustainable revenues.

With the Tekne acquisition complete, NUBURU has taken an important step in building that platform. Its next phase will centre on translating its expanded industrial capabilities and technology portfolio into customer deployments, new contracts and long-term commercial growth.
