Grifols (NASDAQ:GRFS) reported stronger-than-expected third-quarter revenue, supported by continued growth in its Biopharma division and rising demand for immunoglobulin products. The Spanish pharmaceutical company also delivered higher profitability, improved cash generation and a reduction in leverage while maintaining its full-year financial guidance.
Revenue reached €2.04 billion, representing an 8.4% increase at constant currency and exceeding analysts’ consensus estimate of €1.98 billion. Net profit climbed 27.9% to €162 million, while adjusted EBITDA increased 9.8% at constant currency to €538 million, representing a margin of 26.4%.
Grifols’ US-listed shares closed Monday’s session 5% higher following the results, although the stock declined 1.4% in premarket trading on Tuesday.
Biopharma Growth Led by Immunoglobulin Products
The Biopharma division remained the principal contributor to Grifols’ quarterly performance, recording revenue growth of 10.3% at constant currency.
Immunoglobulin sales increased 11.3%, reflecting continued demand for the company’s plasma-derived therapies. Within the category, subcutaneous immunoglobulin products delivered particularly strong growth of 40.3%.
The Alpha-1 and specialty proteins franchise also performed well, with revenue rising 18.2%, supported by sales of rabies-related products.
However, the performance was not uniform across the portfolio.
Albumin revenue declined 13.2%, primarily because of regulatory factors and elevated inventory levels in China. The weakness partially offset growth elsewhere in the Biopharma business.
Despite this decline, the strength of immunoglobulins and specialty proteins supported the division’s overall expansion.
Profitability Improves as Management Executes Growth Strategy
Grifols reported a 27.9% increase in third-quarter net profit to €162 million, alongside higher adjusted operating profitability.
Adjusted EBITDA reached €538 million, up 9.8% at constant currency, with the margin standing at 26.4%.
Chief Executive Officer Nacho Abia attributed the results to continued progress in implementing the company’s business strategy.
“The third-quarter results reflect continued execution of our plan, with growth in our core franchises translating into improving profitability and cash generation,” Abia said.
The figures indicate that higher sales in Grifols’ principal product categories are contributing to improved earnings and cash generation.
Management continues to focus on profitable growth, operational efficiency and strengthening the company’s financial position.
Free Cash Flow Reaches €208 Million as Debt Leverage Falls
Grifols generated €208 million in free cash flow before mergers and acquisitions during the third quarter, supporting further progress in its balance sheet strategy.
The company’s net leverage ratio declined to 3.98 times, compared with 4.2 times a year earlier.
Liquidity increased to €2.14 billion, providing additional financial flexibility.
Grifols also completed the refinancing of its obligations due in 2027, extending its debt maturity profile. Following the transaction, the company has no significant debt maturities until the fourth quarter of 2028.
The improved liquidity position and lower leverage reflect management’s efforts to reduce financial risk while continuing to invest in its operations.
Chief Financial Officer Rahul Srinivasan highlighted the progress across the company’s financial priorities.
“We continue to make tangible progress on our key priorities: responsible profit growth, disciplined cost management, margin improvement, deleveraging progress and free cash flow generation – resulting in a stronger balance sheet and very strong liquidity,” Srinivasan said.
Grifols Egypt Targets Expansion in Plasma Collection
Grifols continues to develop its plasma collection operations in Egypt as part of its longer-term strategy to expand supply capacity.
The company’s Egyptian operations remain on track to collect approximately 1 million litres of plasma during 2026.
Grifols aims to increase annual collection capacity to as much as 3 million litres by 2029.
The expansion is intended to support the company’s plasma-derived medicines business and strengthen its ability to meet future demand.
Progress in Egypt represents an important operational milestone as Grifols works to increase plasma availability across its international network.
SPARTA Phase 3 Results Expected in Fourth Quarter
Investors are also awaiting clinical developments from Grifols’ research pipeline.
The company expects to report topline results from its Phase 3 SPARTA study by the end of the fourth quarter.
The upcoming data represent a potential milestone for the company’s clinical development activities.
Although the outcome remains uncertain, the results could provide further information about the progress of Grifols’ pharmaceutical pipeline.
Full-Year Guidance Maintained
Grifols reaffirmed its full-year financial guidance following the stronger-than-expected third-quarter performance.
The decision comes after revenue exceeded consensus estimates and profitability improved, supported by the Biopharma division.
Immunoglobulin demand remains a key driver of growth, while the company’s efforts to manage costs, generate cash and reduce leverage have contributed to an improved financial position.
However, weakness in albumin sales, particularly in China, remains an area for investors to monitor.
Attention will also focus on the continued expansion of plasma collection operations in Egypt and the forthcoming SPARTA clinical trial results.
Outlook
Grifols delivered third-quarter results above market expectations, with revenue reaching €2.04 billion and net profit increasing 27.9%.
Strong immunoglobulin sales and growth in specialty proteins supported Biopharma performance, while improved free cash flow and reduced leverage strengthened the balance sheet.
The company enters the final quarter with its annual guidance unchanged, €2.14 billion in liquidity and no significant debt maturities until late 2028.
Investors will be watching whether demand for plasma-derived therapies continues to support revenue growth, alongside progress in operational expansion and clinical development.
