Nucor Corporation (NYSE:NUE), the largest steel producer in the U.S., announced on Wednesday that it has temporarily halted certain operations across multiple sites after detecting a cybersecurity breach involving unauthorized access to some of its IT systems.
The Charlotte, North Carolina-based company said it is working to bring the affected systems back online and has enlisted external cybersecurity experts to assist in the investigation and recovery process.
According to a filing with the SEC, Nucor has notified federal law enforcement and is taking proactive steps to contain the breach. This includes isolating impacted systems and implementing additional safeguards to mitigate further risk.
The company has not provided specific details about the nature or extent of the breach and declined immediate requests for further comment.
Despite the disruption, Nucor recently reported strong financial results for the first quarter, exceeding analyst expectations for both revenue and profit. The performance was driven by increased steel shipments and a rebound in spot steel prices.
