Rekor Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:REKR) saw its stock surge by 30.9% after announcing a landmark multi-year agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). The deal grants TxDOT districts across the state immediate access to Rekor’s AI-driven roadway management platform, Rekor Command®, under a substantial blanket purchase order reportedly valued in the eight-figure range.
The Maryland-based company, known for its expertise in intelligent transportation systems, will now expand its role in Texas to help optimize traffic flow, improve road safety, and reduce congestion across the state’s vast 80,000-mile highway network. The contract comes amid a period of significant growth in Texas, where increased population and vehicle volume are placing added pressure on transportation infrastructure.
Darran Anderson, Director of Strategy and Innovation at TxDOT, praised the partnership, saying that continued integration of advanced technologies like Rekor Command® is key to tackling statewide challenges related to roadway safety and traffic congestion.
Rekor’s technology is already operational in TxDOT’s Austin District, where early results have been promising. Officials reported a 159% jump in the identification of traffic incidents and notable reductions in both detection and clearance times since deploying the system.
Mike Arellano, Deputy Engineer for the Austin District, credited the improvements to Rekor’s AI-powered tools, noting their positive impact on emergency response and overall road safety. “These innovations are saving lives,” he emphasized.
Paul-Matthew Zamsky, General Manager at Rekor, underscored the rigorous selection process and the proven outcomes the platform has delivered so far. He highlighted how Rekor Command® brings together diverse traffic data into one unified, real-time system that supports faster and smarter decision-making.
The expanded deployment will also introduce additional tools, including a Traffic Impact Module and a Work Zone API, both aimed at enhancing coordination, improving traffic conditions, and supporting proactive infrastructure management.
This new statewide contract cements Rekor’s status as a key technology provider for one of the nation’s largest and fastest-growing transportation systems. As Rekor Command® scales across Texas, the company is set to play a pivotal role in modernizing how the Lone Star State manages its roads.
