Envirotech Vehicles, Inc. (NASDAQ: EVTV) has officially launched commercial-stage operations of its electric school bus division with the first deliveries of its all-electric “Bumble Bee” buses to three Texas school districts: Freer, Blanket, and Waelder.
The deliveries mark the beginning of Envirotech’s participation in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean School Bus (CSB) Program, a $5 billion initiative aimed at replacing traditional diesel-powered school buses with cleaner, zero-emission alternatives. The program, which runs from 2022 through 2026, is designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and advance environmental justice in school transportation.
Envirotech is slated to deliver a total of 25 electric school buses to districts in Texas and Arkansas, supported by $8.57 million in CSB funding. Additional deliveries are expected this week, according to the company.
The EVT “Bumble Bee” electric school bus features a range of up to 150 miles per charge and offers benefits such as zero emissions, lower maintenance costs, quieter operation, and reduced fuel expenses when compared to diesel buses. The buses also use regenerative braking and require no internal combustion engine or exhaust system.
“This launch highlights the growth and maturity of our electric vehicle segment,” said Jason Maddox, President and Interim CFO of Envirotech Vehicles. “We are honored to serve the students of Freer, Blanket, and Waelder ISDs and grateful to the EPA for its commitment to cleaner transportation for our children.”
Local school officials welcomed the new additions to their fleets, noting both environmental and educational benefits.
“Freer ISD is proud to receive our first ‘Bumble Bee’ electric school bus,” said Superintendent Conrad Cantu. “Thanks to the EPA’s Clean School Bus Program, our students will benefit from a quieter, cleaner ride.”
Blanket ISD Superintendent David Whisenhunt echoed the sentiment: “Our students will be delighted to ride in a zero-emissions electric bus.”
Dr. Ron Lilie, Superintendent of Waelder ISD, added: “This is an exciting step for Waelder. We’re thankful to Envirotech and the EPA for making it possible.”
Maddox also noted the company’s anticipation of further EPA funding that could support continued growth in electric bus orders.
