Rigetti Computing Shares Climb After Debuting Record-Breaking Multi-Chip Quantum System

Shares of Rigetti Computing (NASDAQ:RGTI) gained 5% after the company announced a major technical breakthrough with the successful demonstration of the industry’s largest multi-chip quantum computer—while also cutting error rates significantly.

The company hit its mid-year target by achieving 99.5% median two-qubit gate fidelity on its modular 36-qubit platform. This represents a 50% improvement in the median two-qubit gate error rate compared to its earlier results on the 84-qubit Ankaa-3 single-chip system.

The 36-qubit architecture is constructed from four 9-qubit “chiplets” that are integrated using Rigetti’s proprietary modular chip framework. This modular design marks a major milestone in the firm’s roadmap toward building increasingly powerful quantum systems.

“We benefit from the many advantages of superconducting qubits, including gate speeds more than 1,000x faster than other modalities like ion trap and pure atoms, and scalability,” said Dr. Subodh Kulkarni, Rigetti’s CEO.

Rigetti is preparing to launch the new 36-qubit platform on August 15 and is still on pace to debut a 100+ qubit modular system by the end of 2025, maintaining the same 99.5% two-qubit fidelity level.

The latest design incorporates CZ gates—an essential component in quantum logic that is computationally equivalent to iSWAP gates—enabling robust execution of quantum algorithms. Additional details are expected when the company publishes its Q2 2025 financial results.
