Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta (NASDAQ:META), shared his vision for delivering “personal superintelligence” to everyone, setting Meta’s AI strategy apart from its rivals.
In a statement released Wednesday, Zuckerberg revealed that Meta’s AI systems have started to show signs of self-improvement, making the arrival of superintelligence “now in sight” over the coming years.
“Meta’s vision is to bring personal superintelligence to everyone. We believe in putting this power in people’s hands to direct it towards what they value in their own lives,” Zuckerberg wrote.
He differentiated Meta’s approach from others in the tech world who “believe superintelligence should be directed centrally towards automating all valuable work, and then humanity will live on a dole of its output.”
Zuckerberg foresees that personal AI systems, which deeply understand users’ goals, will become essential, with devices like smart glasses emerging as primary computing tools by perceiving and interpreting the user’s environment.
While advocating for widespread access to superintelligence, he also acknowledged that new safety challenges will arise, requiring thoughtful decisions about which technologies should be made open source.
“The rest of this decade seems likely to be the decisive period for determining the path this technology will take,” Zuckerberg said, underscoring Meta’s dedication to developing AI that empowers individuals rather than replacing human roles.
