American Eagle shares jump after Trump’s social media shoutout

American Eagle Outfitters (NYSE:AEO) saw its stock surge up to 14% early Monday following a mention by former President Donald Trump on his social media platform, Truth Social.

Trump highlighted actress Sydney Sweeney’s recent American Eagle commercial, praising it by saying the jeans she’s modeling are “flying off the shelves.” His remarks sparked a strong rally in the retailer’s shares.

Sweeney leads the brand’s latest denim campaign, delivering lines like, “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color,” before adding, “My genes are blue,” as the camera zooms in on her eyes. The ad wraps up with the tagline: “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”

While the campaign has drawn some criticism for focusing on white, blonde, and blue-eyed features, the attention—combined with Trump’s endorsement—has clearly energized investor enthusiasm.

In that same social media post, Trump also took aim at luxury automaker Jaguar for a “WOKE” advertisement, and called out singer Taylor Swift.
