Ranpak Holdings Corp. (NYSE:PACK) saw its stock jump 16% following news that Walmart (NYSE:WMT) will significantly broaden its use of the company’s automation technology.
Under the new agreement, Walmart will roll out Ranpak’s AutoFill™ systems to five Next Generation Fulfillment Centers, extending beyond the current installation at its McCordsville, Indiana facility. The additional sites include locations in Pennsylvania, Illinois, Texas, and California.
Ranpak’s AutoFill™, combined with its Decision Tower, leverages AI and machine vision to analyze package contents and determine the exact amount of paper void fill needed. The system then dispenses filler, closes, and seals each box automatically, ensuring product protection while improving efficiency.
“Our collaboration with Walmart represents a significant milestone for Ranpak as we continue to scale our automation capabilities to meet the needs of the world’s largest retailers,” said Omar Asali, Chairman and CEO of Ranpak.
The initiative is expected to accelerate Walmart’s fulfillment process, lower packaging waste, and simplify tasks for employees. Walmart said the move will help it process customer orders more quickly by eliminating steps in the packing workflow.
“At Walmart, we are constantly seeking solutions that increase speed of service for our customers and simplify work for our associates,” said Vik Gopalakrishnan, Senior Vice President of Automation Engineering at Walmart. “Ranpak’s AutoFill™ system offers us a meaningful way to reduce packaging waste and get our products into our customers’ hands faster.”
Since its introduction in 2021, Ranpak’s AutoFill™ technology has been designed to optimize filler usage, minimize shipping damage, and enhance throughput — aligning with the retail industry’s growing emphasis on sustainability and automation.
