CNX Resources taps Alan Shepard as next CEO, starting January 2026

CNX Resources Corporation (NYSE:CNX) said Monday that Alan Shepard, who currently holds the roles of President and Chief Financial Officer, will be elevated to President and Chief Executive Officer beginning January 1, 2026.

Shepard will take over from longtime leader Nick Deiuliis, who plans to retire from the CEO post at the end of 2025 after a 35-year tenure with the company. Deiuliis will continue to serve on CNX’s Board of Directors following his retirement.

Shepard, who rejoined CNX in 2020, has been CFO since June 2022 and added the title of President in June 2025. He brings more than two decades of industry expertise to the top job.

“Since rejoining CNX in 2020, Alan has been instrumental in the development and execution of the company’s unique Sustainable Business Model,” said Ian McGuire, Chairman of the CNX Board of Directors.

As part of the leadership handover, CNX said it intends to appoint a new Chief Financial Officer before year-end.

Based in Pittsburgh, CNX Resources focuses on natural gas development, production, midstream operations, and technology across the Appalachian Basin. As of December 31, 2024, the company reported 8.54 trillion cubic feet equivalent of proved natural gas reserves and is listed on the Standard & Poor’s Midcap 400 Index.
