Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) saw its stock drop 2% Wednesday morning following comments from Elon Musk, who encouraged his followers to terminate their subscriptions to the streaming platform.
“Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids,” Musk wrote on X, responding to a post accusing the company of promoting a transgender agenda. The Tesla CEO, who has 226 million followers on the platform, also shared multiple posts highlighting what he described as a rising wave of Netflix cancellations.
Musk singled out the animated show Dead End: Paranormal Park, claiming it was “pushing trans ideology” to young viewers. In a separate post, he added, “this is not ok,” reacting to a user who noted the series is marketed to children as young as seven.
Netflix has faced criticism from conservative commentators in recent years over its programming decisions, although the company maintains that it provides content for a wide and diverse audience.
