Axalta Coating Systems Ltd. (NYSE:AXTA) shares rose 2.3% in premarket trading Monday after the company announced it will introduce two advanced coatings designed for electric vehicle (EV) battery applications.
The global coatings manufacturer will debut Alesta e-PRO FG Black and Alesta e-PRO Dielectric Gray at The Battery Show North America. Both products were specifically engineered to enhance safety in EV batteries, offering superior heat resistance and electrical insulation.
Alesta e-PRO FG Black delivers thermal stability and secondary fire protection, withstanding ignition at temperatures up to 1200°C while emitting no smoke. In parallel, Alesta e-PRO Dielectric Gray provides high-voltage electrical insulation, combining industry-leading edge coverage with the flexibility needed for complex battery designs.
“These breakthrough products demonstrate the amazing power of coatings to rise to new challenges and reflect Axalta’s proven history of innovating products that impact the world for the better,” said Dr. Robert Roop, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Axalta.
The launch arrives as the electric vehicle industry continues to confront battery safety concerns. While EVs statistically face fewer fire risks than traditional gas-powered vehicles, thermal runaway incidents in lithium-ion batteries can still result in severe fires or explosions.
Axalta stated that when applied within validated OEM battery systems, these new coatings may improve thermal stability and enhance insulation performance, contributing to safer and more efficient EV battery designs.
