Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang said on Wednesday that the United States is “not far ahead” of China when it comes to artificial intelligence development, emphasizing how quickly China is advancing in the field. The comments were made during an interview with CNBC.
Huang also voiced his support for the U.S. H-1B visa program, saying that it plays a crucial role in helping the country attract top global talent. “Immigration is the foundation of the American dream,” he said.
Discussing Nvidia’s business, Huang noted that demand for the company’s Blackwell chips is “really, really high,” and added that Nvidia is “always looking for startups to invest in.” He reiterated that Nvidia’s mission is to support AI infrastructure and foster growth across the broader ecosystem.
When asked about past investment decisions, Huang admitted his “only regret” was not giving Elon Musk’s xAI more money and not investing in OpenAI earlier, acknowledging that OpenAI’s revenue is growing exponentially.
Bloomberg News reported earlier this week that xAI’s ongoing funding round has grown to as much as $20 billion, with Nvidia reportedly contributing up to $2 billion in the equity portion of the deal. The financing, which includes both equity and debt, will help xAI purchase Nvidia GPUs for its upcoming Colossus 2 data center.
Huang also praised Musk’s innovation and entrepreneurial drive, saying that Nvidia wants “to be part of almost everything Musk is involved in.”
