Vulcan Materials Company (NYSE:VMC) announced that its board of directors has appointed Ronnie Pruitt as chief executive officer, effective January 1, 2026. Current Chairman and CEO Tom Hill will step into the role of executive chairman at the same time, ensuring a structured leadership transition at the company.
Pruitt, 55, currently serves as chief operating officer—a position he has held since August 2023—and will join the board of directors when he officially assumes the top job. Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, Vulcan is recognized as the largest producer of construction aggregates in the United States.
Hill and Pruitt have been working closely to execute the company’s strategy, and this collaboration will continue through the handover period, the company said in a press release.
“Ronnie is the ideal person to lead Vulcan’s future growth and innovation,” Hill stated. “He is an experienced executive with deep expertise across the strategic, operational, and commercial areas of our business.”
Grayson Hall, lead independent director, described the leadership transition as “the culmination of a thoughtful, thorough, and structured succession planning process.”
Pruitt brings more than 30 years of experience in the building materials industry. He joined Vulcan in August 2021 as part of its acquisition of U.S. Concrete, where he served as CEO. Before being promoted to COO, he was senior vice president overseeing Vulcan’s Southwest and Western Divisions.
He has also served on the boards of key industry groups, including the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association and the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association. Pruitt holds a bachelor’s degree from University of Texas at Arlington.
