American Battery Technology Company Shares Surge After Completing NEPA Baseline Studies

Shares of American Battery Technology Company (NASDAQ:ABAT) jumped 23% Monday after the company announced it has completed all required National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) baseline studies for its Tonopah Flats Lithium Project in Nevada — a key step toward advancing one of the largest lithium developments in the U.S.

The company said it has submitted all baseline reports to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM), clearing a critical prerequisite to begin the formal NEPA review process.

Over the past two years, ABAT completed 21 studies spanning 14 categories — including biological, ecological, hydrological, geological, cultural, and socio-economic areas. These studies were first outlined during a Baseline Needs Assessment meeting in March 2023 with more than 40 regulatory agencies and stakeholders.

“I am extremely proud of the ABTC team and all of our consultants that helped to drive these 21 studies to completion over the past several years,” said ABTC CEO Ryan Melsert in the announcement.

The Tonopah Flats Lithium Project covers more than 10,340 acres and is estimated to contain 21.15 million tons of accessible lithium hydroxide monohydrate. ABAT has also submitted a comprehensive Mine Plan of Operations, which is currently under BLM review.

In June 2025, the project was designated a “Covered Priority Project” under President Trump’s March 2025 Executive Order on “Immediate Measures to Increase American Mineral Production,” designed to speed up approvals for key mineral projects.

ABAT said it is preparing to release a Pre-Feasibility Study that will provide a detailed technical and economic assessment of the project, a crucial step toward commercial development and production.
