Apple launches MacBook Pro M5 with leap in AI and graphics performance

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) announced  the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 chip, promising a leap in artificial intelligence performance and up to 1.6 times faster graphics. The processor features a 10-core GPU and a neural accelerator in each core, ensuring performance up to 3.5 times faster than the previous generation.

With a faster CPU and an improved Neural Engine, the M5 accelerates tasks like running language models, video editing, and 3D rendering. The notebook has a battery life of up to 24 hours and twice as fast SSD storage, with an option of up to 4TB. The starting price is $1,599 in the US.

The M5 chip brings significant benefits to users upgrading from Intel or M1 models: up to 86x faster AI performance and up to 30x faster graphics. It offers fast charging—50% battery in 30 minutes—and maintains the same performance whether plugged in or on battery power.

The 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display, with 1,600 nits of HDR brightness and 1,000,000:1 contrast, returns with a nanotexture option. The system includes a 12MP Center Stage camera, studio-quality microphones, and six speakers with spatial audio support, geared toward creators and professionals.

macOS Tahoe improves integration with Apple Intelligence, including live translation in Messages and FaceTime, and more powerful automations with Smart Shortcuts. The interface gains transparency in the menu bar and new color options for icons and folders, making the system more immersive and customizable.

The new model also stands out environmentally: 45% of its weight comes from recycled materials, including 100% aluminum in the body and cobalt in the battery. The MacBook Pro is produced with 55% renewable energy and comes in 100% recyclable fiber packaging, in line with Apple’s 2030 carbon neutrality goal.

The company also launched new iPad Pro and Vision Pro, both powered by the M5 chip. The 11-inch iPad Pro starts at $999 and features a tandem OLED display, while the $3,499 Vision Pro headset features ergonomic improvements and improved augmented reality and AI performance.

With the M5, Apple aims to boost holiday sales after mixed results in previous quarters. Pre-orders are now open in 30 countries and regions, and the devices will hit stores on October 22.

Following the announcement, shares rose 0.9% in pre-market trading on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in New York.
