Match Group (NASDAQ:MTCH) announced that its popular dating platform Tinder will roll out its Face Check facial verification tool to additional U.S. states over the coming months. The feature is already mandatory for new users in seven countries and in California.
Face Check prompts new users to record a short video selfie to confirm their identity and ensure their profile photos match their real appearance. Once verified, users receive Tinder’s “Photo Verified” badge. The system also detects when the same face is used across multiple accounts, helping combat impersonation and fake profiles.
The tool has already been deployed in Colombia, Canada, Australia, India, and several Southeast Asian countries. According to company data, markets where Face Check is active have seen more than a 60% drop in exposure to potential bad actors and over a 40% decline in reports involving suspicious behavior.
“We’re strengthening and accelerating our investments in Trust and Safety,” said Spencer Rascoff, CEO of Match Group and head of Tinder. “Safety is an essential part of the Tinder experience, built into how people join, match, and connect.”
Yoel Roth, Head of Trust & Safety at Match Group, described Face Check as “perhaps the most measurably impactful Trust and Safety feature I’ve seen in my 15-year career.”
The company emphasized that video selfies are deleted shortly after review, while only encrypted face maps are stored for verification purposes. Match Group also plans to extend Face Check to other apps in its portfolio in 2026.
The announcement was made through a press release issued by the Los Angeles–based company.
